New Sydney Fish Market – Project Context
The New Sydney Fish Market, located at Blackwattle Bay, is a newly completed world-class waterfront destination scheduled to open in January 2026. Designed by international and local architectural leaders, the market combines working fish market operations with expanded retail, dining, and cultural experiences.
The development features a striking wave-inspired roof with integrated solar panels, improved public access, and significantly increased retail space, positioning it as one of Sydney’s most iconic food and tourism destinations.

Fruitzey Store Relocation – Project Overview

As part of the relocation into the new Sydney Fish Market precinct, Fruitzey transitioned from its original location into a modern, purpose-built retail space within the development.

The project presented several operational and technical challenges:
• High trading store with continuous customer traffic
• Limited floor space available
• No dedicated plant room for condensing units
• Customer preference for a natural refrigerant solution
To address these challenges, Avance Energy set out to deliver an energy-efficient and environmentally responsible refrigeration solution and partnered with Hussmann to achieve this outcome. Hussmann team worked with AVANSE Energy to make this project a success for the past one year

Refrigeration Solution

Hussmann supplied P-Series remote display cases, selected for their high energy efficiency and suitability for demanding retail environments.
A Panasonic transcritical CO₂ condensing unit solution was chosen for its compact footprint, indoor installation capability, and use of natural refrigerant—supporting both space constraints and sustainability objectives.
Additional R290 SGN self-contained cases installed within the store

System Configuration
10 HP Panasonic CO₂ Unit with Adiabatic System
◦ Operates four remote cabinets (two door cases PMM Dairy Case and two open cases PMN open case)
◦ Also supplies a medium-temperature cool room built by Ultra using Kirby Evaporator
◦ The energy efficiency of Hussmann P-Series cases, combined with the wide capacity envelope of Panasonic transcritical units, made this configuration possible.
• 2 HP Panasonic CO₂ Unit with Adiabatic System
◦ Dedicated to one PGL low-temperature case in the store

Installation, Safety & Compliance

Due to the absence of a plant room, both condensing units were installed indoors within the shop floor. Hussmann and Ultra Refrigeration worked closely to ensure all required safety measures were incorporated into the system design.

Avance Energy supported the project by designing and implementing appropriate exhaust and make-up air solutions, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the transcritical CO₂ systems.

Ultra Refrigeration played a key role in delivering the project in line with the store’s opening timeline.

Case Connect IoT – Added Value
Independent retailers often face challenges in continuously monitoring and maintaining refrigeration systems due to their focus on daily operations and sales.
To address this, Hussmann provided Case Connect IoT with the P-Series remote cabinets, enabling:
• Real-time performance monitoring
• Preventive maintenancesupport
• Improved reliability and operational efficiency
